In your opinion, how important is the camera body in taking good pictures? I am currently in a photography class where I am the only with a Nikon D40, and everyone else has a D5000. I use a 24-120mm VR lens and then the 18-55 mm one that came with the camera. I’d like to hope that I can still get some great pictures once I can master the balance between aperture, shutter speed, and ISO, to begin with. Is this true in your experience? I noticed that you use a D80, which was reassuring to me!
In my opinion the difference between the d40 and the d5000 is minimal when in comes to being able to get great pictures. You’re right, once you can master exposure, white balance, lighting etc. you will be able to get some great pictures. However, I feel like having a really great lens/lenses is a key to getting better pictures. So don’t fret, you will do great with what you’ve got! (I do suggest to get the 50mm f/1.8 lens though.
Thank you! I appreciate the time you took to respond. I agree, I do need a bit more variety with lenses and either the 50 mm or 85 mm is on my radar. Thank you!
